Trouble in Paradise

Everyone a Photographer

15 February - 10 June 2019 Rijksmuseum Amsterdam

The invention of small, easy-to-use cameras enabled amateurs to record important moments themselves for the first time. In Everyone a photographer, Mattie Boom shows how amateur photography brought about profound changes in visual culture; and how amateur photographs are the missing link in the history of photography. In the publication Everyone a Photographer, Boom describes the rise of amateur photography in the Netherlands: the photographers, the photographs, the albums, the key figures and the backgrounds. This book includes more than 250 photos and albums from the collections of the Rijksmuseum and other Dutch museums and archives, many of them never published before.

The book is available in our webshop and in the museum shop. Only available in English ISBN 978-94-6208-477-3

The Ghosts of Sunday Morning

2 March  – 19 May Design Museum Den Bosch

In 2019, the storied European Ceramic Work Centre (EKWC) will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary. Sculptors, architects, designers and others have realized their (sometimes crazy) dreams at EKWC, relying on the expert technicians and world-class facility there.
The Ghosts of Sunday Morning at Design Museum Den Bosch will take a measure of this history, and capture its spirit, through a highly unconventional method. Fifty works from EKWC’s past, each the creation of different alumni, will be recreated by the current team of workshop specialists.

The publication associated with the exhibition will be a beguiling overlay of present and past. It will include Glenn Adamson's essay on the organization’s history, and of the voices of the various artists and technicians whose lives and work have been impacted, past and present, will be represented.

The book is available in our webshop and in the museum shop. Only available in English ISBN 978-94-6208-494-0
