Explore our new spring 2016 catalogue!

Rather than showing unbridled growth,as in other parts of the world, sizes and perimeters of European cities are hardly changing at all. This has brought some unique values to the attention of the new generation of designers and urban planners  that have the floor in nai010 publishers’ spring 2016 catalogue: building on the existent; making sustainable what’s worth  having; transforming and innovating. The Flexible City, Vital Architecture, Building Upon Building, a special edition of OASE, no less than four publications in the spring catalogue explore the opportunities and challenges of building on the existing city. ‘Rooted values rather than indiscriminate forms’ – designers are developing surprising and intelligent solutions and how a new sensitivity to urban and social context, (re)use and appropriation.

Besides being a platform for today’s design agenda, nai010 also wants to provide historical depth. One of the ways we’re doing this is by publishing a fully revised English edition of Willemijn Stokvis’s authoritative standard work on Cobra, making it available to the international world of art for the very first time. In another publication we explore the heritage of the Dutch post-war reconstruction and gauge its significance for current tasks of transformation. And finally, we’re back in the present: Hacking Habitat explores how we can protect ourselves from the privacy-destroying power of ubiquitous technology – and how art can lend a hand.
